Welcome Letter from Principal Gant!

Dear Vaux Big Picture High School Students and Families,

I hope you and your family have had a wonderful, restful, and enjoyable summer. As we prepare to begin the 2026–2027 school year, I am excited to welcome all of our students and families back to Vaux Big Picture High School for another year of growth, opportunity, exploration, and achievement.

Whether you are entering Vaux for the first time as a 9th grader, continuing to build your foundation as a 10th grader, stepping into leadership as an 11th grader, or preparing to complete your journey as a member of our senior class, you are an important part of the Vaux family.

At Vaux BPHS, we believe in doing school differently. Education is more than earning credits, passing courses, and meeting graduation requirements. We believe learning should be personalized, meaningful, engaging, and connected to the real world. Our goal is to help every student discover their passions, recognize their strengths, develop resilience, build confidence, and prepare for a successful future beyond high school.

A cornerstone of the Vaux experience is our Advisory Model. Your Advisory is your school family and provides a consistent space where you can build relationships, set goals, reflect on your progress, advocate for yourself, and receive support throughout your high school journey. Your Advisor is one of your greatest resources at Vaux. We encourage every student and family to develop a strong partnership with their Advisor from the very beginning of the school year.

Resiliency is also at the heart of who we are. We understand that challenges are part of life and learning. At Vaux, we want students to develop the skills to navigate challenges, learn from mistakes, advocate for themselves, and continue moving forward. We will support you, challenge you, celebrate your progress, and encourage you to recognize the strength you already possess.

Through Real World Learning, internships, project-based learning, and career and college exploration, students have opportunities to connect what they learn in the classroom to their interests and future goals. These experiences allow you to explore careers, develop professional skills, build relationships, solve authentic problems, and begin answering one of the most important questions of your high school journey: What do I want my future to look like?

Every grade level has an important role in our school community. Our 9th graders are beginning their Vaux journey and establishing the foundation for their high school experience. Our 10th graders are building greater independence and beginning to expand their Real World Learning experiences. Our 11th graders are stepping into the responsibilities of being upperclassmen while making important decisions about college, careers, and life after high school. And our 12th graders are preparing to finish strong, demonstrate leadership, and take the next steps toward graduation and their postsecondary plans.

Regardless of your grade level, I challenge every student this year to show up, participate, ask questions, build relationships, take healthy risks, explore your interests, learn from challenges, and take ownership of your education. Your attendance matters. Your effort matters. Your choices matter. Your voice matters. You matter.

Families, your partnership is essential to our success. We encourage you to remain connected with your student’s Advisor and teachers, participate in school events, communicate with us, celebrate your student’s accomplishments, and partner with us when challenges arise. When students, families, educators, and community partners work together, our young people have the strongest opportunity to succeed.

As your Principal, I am excited about what we will accomplish together this year. I look forward to seeing our students return to our hallways, reconnect with their Advisors and teachers, engage in meaningful learning experiences, and continue developing into the young adults, leaders, scholars, and professionals they are becoming.
